Fresh air and sunshine!!

Autumn is a beautiful time to get outside. It’s cool and fresh and changing every day. Social distancing doesn’t need to be spent indoors plugged into Netflix or endlessly scrolling news updates (and it really shouldn’t).

Get outside! Transform your health and pay attention to the wonders of nature all around you. Go for a walk; go lie in the park in the sun; step into the garden and do some weeding; breathe the fresh clean autumn air and get some sunshine on your face! If you would like to explore a little further from home (and are fortunate enough to have your own means of transport) why not visit one of the many beautiful Botanic Gardens?

We recommend an expedition to The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden - Mount Tomah. It’s currently still open to the public, and while tours and events have been cancelled, the gardens are still there, growing, thriving, being gorgeous.

There are 28 hectares of curated garden and a further 244 hectares of wilderness sitting inside this UNESCO World Heritage Area. That’s a lot of space to spread out! With its rich soil and cool climate, Mount Tomah offers perfect conditions for growing Northern hemisphere plants – perfect for pretending you’re on a European holiday for a few hours.

So pack yourself a delicious picnic with your best rations. And once you’ve walked and walked and you’re feeling peckish, find a spot under the canopy of a huge ginko or delicate maple and RELAX!

Listen to the birds singing around you.

Birdsong is known to reduce stress and with over 150 native birds species calling Mount Tomah home, surely all your stress will melt away.

Let the dappled green light wash over you.

Forest bathing, getting out and spending time amongst the trees, has been shown to boost wellbeing, reduce stress, improve immunity and ease anxiety.

Take off your shoes and feel the cool soft grass between your toes!

Grounding (creating contact between your skin and the natural earth) reconnects you to the electrical energy of the earth and helps restore balance within your own body, reduces inflammation, lowers blood pressure.

So step outside; go gently; go slowly. It’s time to pay attention to the earth. If you can’t make it to Mount Tomah, do step into the garden or out into your local park. It will do wonders for your wellbeing.
