An abundant garden achieved on a rooftop

Our clients asked us to create a surprisingly lovely garden to enjoy and ease the journey between house to street with much to enjoy on the way.  The design transformed the tired entrance, unloved garage roof and an eight meter climb
from street to front door into a space with well-defined structure balanced and softened by a rich tapestry of drought tolerant planting.

Newly formed sandstone walls using the original stone from site, and custom-designed and made Corten steel screens screen the garden and stairs above yet provide an immediate point of interest and pause.  The Corten screens (design based on spilling water and coastal rock formations) are both decorative and functional, they are both balustrade and screening, creating a sense of ‘hide and reveal’ and add drama and delight.

The timber deck becomes a bridge over the cascading water feature and a generous entry into the garden. The water feature ‘encloses’ the garden and provides a water element for cooling, sound and a counterpoint to the dry, gravel.
